A Daughter’s Care considers it our honor and privilege to serve you and your family. As founders of this family owned business, we were raised in a culture where our elders are valued and revered, simply for being who they are: Elders!
Leviticus 19:32, “Stand up in the presence of the elderly and revere your God. I am the Lord”.
We were founded on two core principals, compassion and dignity. Our goal is that every resident who enters our home is treated with the same respect that we bestowed on our father while he was alive and our mother who is a current resident at our Cedarbrook location.
Our home was birthed from necessity. Like many of you who function as caregivers, my sister and I needed assistance in taking care of our mother.
We took care of our father at home until he passed away and realized the enormity of the task. When our mother had a stroke, she decided to come reside in Dallas. The disease process was very different for our parents. Our father suffered from liver failure, which one of the symptoms manifested itself like dementia. Although he had basic physical needs that had to be met, it was his mental and emotional needs that required a sharp learning curve. We were quickly coached into the role of caregivers for a loved one who suffered from dementia.
Our mother, on the other hand, suffered from a stroke. As a result, she became paralyzed on her left side. Although she was impacted emotionally, it was her physical needs that required the majority of our attention. Her disease process appeared to be completely opposite that of our father’s.
The journey of caring for both our parents became a calling. Although their disease processes were different, we realized mom and dad had the same basic needs: compassion and respect. It was this first-hand experience of caring for the spiritual, mental and physical needs of beloved aging parents that placed us into position and allowed us to assist others who are also on the same journey.
Having been a school teacher/counselor for over twenty years, and a financial planner, we envisioned the process of finding assistance with the eyes, not only of our parents’ children, but caregivers. Our goal was to locate a facility where our mother would be nurtured spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
So the journey began. As we scoured the city of Dallas, particularly the southern sector, we could not find a facility that was cost effective, but also met the standard of care we demanded. We knew our mother was very particular about cleanliness, especially smells, food, and ambiance. We knew she wanted and deserved a cheerful environment. We wanted a home that was resident-centered. We wanted an environment that would be flexible with our mother’s needs, yet consistent in the quality of care she required. It was from this process of looking for a veritable “needle in a haystack”, that A Daughter’s Care was established.
We poured all our love and a level of excellence that exceeds expectations into our homes. With always fewer than six residents and kind and skilled staff members, we are able to provide an environment and care we are proud to present to families. It is with great pride and joy that we can say our father would have loved to have been a resident, and our mother feels as if she is still at home while residing at our Cedarbrook location. We count it a blessing every day that we are able to afford our mother a loving and caring environment, and are grateful to be placed in a position to provide the same opportunity to others.
Sincerely,
The Davis Family
